Chinese Food Calories

How much calories in diet Chinese food?
I heard that Chinese food often has 2000 calories per dish! is it true and what about their diet dishes with brown rice? they contain fried meat or chicken though…
What exactly is “diet Chinese food”?
Remember, the majority of the stuff you find in Chinese Restaurants in the US is NOT authentic Chinese food. Things like General’s Tso’s chicken, with its breaded fried chunks of chicken and sauces high in sugar were invented in the US by Chinese chefs trying to please the American palate. Also, most Chinese food is served family style – meaning it’s meant to be shared amongst 2-4 people. This allows you to try different dishes. A good ratio is to order 1 less entree than people there are in your party. So a group of 4 should only order 3 entrees.
That’s not to say that all authentic Chinese Dishes are automatically healthy for you – check out the cholestrol levels of a “1000 year egg” for instance.
Authentic Chinese dishes don’t use brown rice. Brown rice is more nutritious, but isn’t any lower in calories or carbs than white rice. And you can get the extra nutrients (B-vitamins, mainly) from other sources.
There are some authentic Chinese dishes in the restaurants, you just have to be a bit pickier. Steamed potstickers or boiled dumplings are a good example. Then egg drop soup or hot & sour soup. Whole boiled fish, or steamed chicken make good low-calorie choices. Try the Chinese broccoli which is just boiled and steamed, then served with a little hoisin sauce. If you like spicy food, try some mabo-tofu, which is a gravy made from soft tofu, a little ground pork, and a chili sauce which you eat over rice.
Avoid fried rice or fried noodles. Boiled noodles are OK. Chinese noodle shops will sell you a huge bowl of soup brimming with lean cuts of meat, veggies, and fresh noodles. Keep an open mind and try other additions like tripe, intestine, and ligament. They’re very high in protein and very low in fat.
And remember, it’s possible to make any dish ridiculously unhealthy, no matter what cuisine it’s from.
